Gin or gin is a distilled beverage made from cereals. Later it undergoes an infusion process with juniper and other spices. It has an alcohol content between 37.5% and 50%, depending on the brand (content similar to other spirits such as vodka, whiskey or cachaça). It originated in the Netherlands in the seventeenth century, but acquired its present form in England.
Gin is known to be an aromatic brandy. Each brand stands out for its unique combination of ingredients, of which juniper berries are required by law. Other ingredients can be used by each brand to obtain its own characteristics. Among the most commonly used ingredients besides juniper are cinnamon, citrus peels, coriander seeds, jasmine, licorice root, black pepper, cassia, almond flour and others.
Its bad reputation for "very strong" drink is due to a historical episode occurred in Century XVIII, England, when its production was made in bottoms distilleries of quintal, without sanitary supervision. At that time, gin was combated with campaigns similar to those made today to fight illegal drugs.
