Canadian whiskey is a type of whiskey produced in Canada. Most Canadian whiskeys are a blend of multi grain based liquors with a high percentage of corn, which gives a lighter and softer texture to the drink than other types of whiskey. A few hundred years ago, Canadian distilleries began adding small amounts of rye to the puree for flavor. People then proceeded to order this rye-flavored whiskey, calling it just rye. Since the last two centuries, the terms "rye whiskey" and "Canadian whiskey" have been interchangeable in Canada (and defined under their laws) for the same product, which contains only a small amount of rye.
